Arta Tequila Wins Top Honors at National Tasting Event
Colorado-‐based company takes home two Best in Shows and Double Gold from 2014 WSWA Competition
Denver, (April 29, 2014) – Arta Tequila, a Colorado-‐owned company that handcrafts premium, 100 percent Blue Weber agave artesian tequilas, was recently awarded top honors at the 2014 Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) tasting competition held in Las Vegas, April 8-‐10.
Arta Reposado, one of the company’s three tequila varieties, had an outstanding performance receiving Best in Show awards for two categories -‐ Best Reposado Tequila and Best White Spirit – Aged. To add to its distinctive and growing collection of awards, Arta Reposado also scored unanimous top honors from the judging panel, securing a Double Gold award.
“We are thrilled with the recognition our premium tequilas received at one of this year’s top tasting events,” said Tony Mayer, owner of Arta Tequila. “Arta has been quietly acquiring awards year after year because we push the limits of aging and distillation to an art form. There are many nuances setting us apart from others, but the pure genius of our master distiller explodes during competitions! There is no doubt we craft refined, rebellious tequilas that are as unique as those who choose to drink them.”
Although reposados require only two months of aging, Arta’s Reposado achieves near añejo status by aging 11 months before bottling. It is double distilled and aged in small American white oak barrels to impart more flavor and deeper natural colors. The tequila has a medium body, golden wheat color with transparent hues of gold highlights, and slow tears. It features primary aromas of ripe pear, sweet almond butter, intense vanilla, light spice and white pepper flower and has a sweet pumpkin taste with silky olive texture.
All three varieties of Arta Tequila have impressive lists of accolades behind them. Arta Añejo was a Double Gold winner at last year’s WSWA competition and was named by Tequila.net as a Best of the Best in 2012. But this only touches the surface. Arta Tequila was founded in 2009 and was purchased in 2011 by Mayer, to honor his father’s legacy. The company is Colorado-‐owned, but all products are handcrafted on a single-‐family run estate located in the birthplace of tequila itself, Arenal, Mexico, a few minutes away from the town of Tequila in the Jalisco region.
Arta Tequila is currently available in the United States, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia. The company crafts Silver, Reposado and Añejo varieties and will launch an Extra Añejo in the Summer of 2014.
