Hola fellow tequila lovers, I hope to make some smart decisions based on your input. In early October, three of us plan to visit distilleries and the sites in the Tequila area. Where should we stay that is nice for the money and centrally located? We will be staying for three nights, should we rent a car to be more mobile, where is the best place to rent one? I appreciate the input, thanks in advance. Monty

Monty,

Welcome to the forum.

I don't have any special information about hotels in the Tequila area. I have always stayed in Guadalajara area where I was centrally located for easy access to distilleries in the Amatitan and Tequila areas, as well as access to the Los Altos Region. This can mean a lot of driving, but if well planned you can see some of the sites in Guadalajara as well. Recently I have stayed at a small bed and breakfast located in the Zapopan area, about 20 minutes from the airport. The rates La Mansion del Sol start at about $125 per night.

I have also used a guide for the past three years rather than renting a car and trying to find my way around. Melchor Jimenez Ornelas, an Authorized Bonded Guide, offers Guadalajara City Tours, Tequila Distillery Tours and custom tours to points of interest. He charges $25 per hour, van included. He knows the area and can be very helpful.

I hope this helps.
