National Museum of Tequila (Museo Nacional de Tequila) - located on Luis Navarro, is a well-designed display of photos, drawings and artifacts in several rooms detailing the history of tequila. One legend holds that the drink was discovered when lightning struck an agave plant, and the resulting sweet smell and taste agreed with the area's indigenous people. Experience the magic first hand. Come to Tequila, Mexico and see how Sauza® Tequilas are made. Join our fascinating guided tours that take you on the journey from agave plant to the drink in your hand. The tours begin at the picturesque Rancho El Indio, where you can assist a genuine ‘jimador’ while he harvests an agave. It continues in La Perseverancia Distillery where the entire tequila-making process is demonstrated: from agave reception to milling, hydrolysis, fermentation, distillation, aging and bottling. After an interesting talk on the production process, the finest freshly mixed tequila drinks will await you at La Quinta Sauza.
Sauza Family Museum - located near the zocalo and costing less than $3 to tour. The Sauza Museum is essentially a collection of memorabilia, including paintings, old photos and ancient tools, in what was once the family home. The Sauzas sold their operation in 1988, although Guillermo Erickson Sauza, a fifth-generation family member, recently began producing his own brand, Tequila Los Abuelos, using traditional techniques.
Tequila Express - Train ride to Amatitan, complete with Mariachis, snacks, drinks and tequila, then a tour of Hacienda San José del Refugio, followed by a buffet lunch. Tours operate Saturday and Sunday throughout the year, and Friday night tours are expected to begin this month.
Tequila Quiote Distillery Tour - Guided tours of the Tequila Quiote distillery are available. The tours guides are very cordial and information during the tours. You will be allowed to purchase products from the factory at the security station at the entrance.
