Agave Tequilana Productores is owned and operated by the Lopez Garibay family, which has been in the tequila business for over 100 years. Established in 1921, their present ranch is located in the heart of the tequila region, Los Altos, where only the finest blue agave is found. After five generations, the family continues to follow a traditional style, handmade tequila production process that focuses on 100 percent estate grown blue agave and attention to preserving the original cultivation and distillation techniques used over a century ago.
Within the Oro Azul line, there are three traditional tequila expressions produced from 100 percent blue agave, each with its own unique production process, color, aroma and taste profile. Made from the sweetest part of the agave plant, Oro Azul Blanco (SRP $25) is unaged, crystal clear and characterized by smoky, roasted pepper and spice notes. Oro Azul Reposado (SRP $27), alternatively, is rested for six months and boasts a palate of bold burnt agave, dried tropical fruits, and sea salt. Anejo (SRP $32), Oro Azul's finest tequila, is distinguished by a pale amber tint and taste of sweet toffee, brown spice, salt and leather, the result of a meticulous double distillation process and more than two years of aging in charred oak barrels.
El Olvido Tequila, also acquired by 21st Century Spirits, will be available for American distribution in the Reposado (SRP $20) expression later this year. Made from 100% pure agave, this amber-hued tequila offers a fruit, floral and spicy aroma complemented by a palate of soft, subtle and balanced flavor.
In addition to importing Oro Azul and El Olvido, 21st Century Spirits is the exclusive American importer of French-produced Gabriel Boudier Liqueurs and Saffron Infused Gin, as well as the owner of Blue Ice Vodka, an American-made spirit.
